RESTAURANTS

The food in Fuerteventura is absolutely wonderful, especially if you take the time to go away from the main tourist areas and experiment a little. The value for money is excellent.

Many of our family and friends have visited us here on the island and they have all said that you would be hard pushed to find the same quality and value in England.

Every year Fuerteventura produces a report about the island and there is usually a review about some of the best restaurants. This year they gave a list of their top 10 favourites, so we decided to try and visit them all, though not all in the same week.

We have listed them below and if we have managed to visit them, we have told you a little about them, the one fault in the report is they do not give you any information about where they are or any telephone numbers, so we have had fun trying to find them, for those we have found, we have given you instructions.

• Julius, Calle Pejin 10, Corralejo, 928 53 77 65

We have not managed to visit this one yet but will let you know what it is like when we do.

• Santa Maria, Betancuria

Have been to Betancuria many a time but not made it through the door yet, it is the restaurant opposite the Church.

• La Rampa del Tio Enrique, Las Playitas/Gran Tarajal

We spent a very pleasant Saturday afternoon and early evening in this restaurant. The staff are very pleasant, even staying open when they wanted to have their own meal before the evening guests arrived. There were 8 of us plus a baby, we went all the way through the menu, had wine, water, spirits, coffees and a thoroughly wonderful meal and the bill came to about €300, which was very reasonable when you think we were eating from 2 in the afternoon until 8 in the evening. The restaurant is situated by the sea front on the corner.

• Marabu Restaurante, calle Fuente de Hija, Esquinzo, 928 54 40 98

Closed on Sunday
Esquinzo is situated between Costa Calma and Jandia, on the left as you are heading South.
This has got to be our favourite, we have been their twice, once with my Father, who gave it 10/10 and again with some friends, who also gave it 10/10.
You go through what looks like the entrance to someone’s garden, down some steps and into a lovely garden area with outdoor seating. The restaurant is well decorated and once again, friendly staff. A little more expensive but well worth it for a wonderful meal in a lovely setting.

• Casa Isaitas, Pajara

We visited this restaurant some time ago with our children, before we read the report and saw that it was recommended, they loved it. It was lunchtime and we decided to stop for something to eat, they served wonderful Tapas, we each chose a dish and shared them all.

• Chinchorro, Morro Jable

Have not found this restaurant yet but will let you know when we do.

• Don Quijote, Aptos. Santa Ursula, Costa Calma, Telephone 928 87 51 58

The Sunday market is on your right as you are going South, turn right at the roundabout, up to the next roundabout, turn right and go along about ½ mile, the restaurant is on the bend in front of you.
We have had a few Sunday lunches here and each time I have the tenera as it melts in the mouth. As with all the restaurants, you can take your time over the meal.

• El Camello, La Pared, Telephone 928 54 90, www.elcamello.biz

Closed on Monday
Have a look at their web site to get an idea of the food and the restaurant surroundings.
Lovely courtyard and lovely restaurant and lovely food.

• Casa Matoso, Valle de Ortega

Bit off the beaten track but if you are out for the day you could call in for lunch.

• La Almacena, Puerto del Rosario

We have not been able to find this restaurant, have asked various people and looked in the phone book but all to no avail, if anyone knows where it is, can they let us know so as we can try it.

Restaurants that are not on the list but tried and tested.

• Mirando Al Sur, Calle Gonzalez del Hierro, Lajares, Telephone 928 53 62 87

An Argentinian restaurant with beautiful steaks.

• Restaurante Dominique, Avda. Campoamor, Lanzarote, Telephone 928 84 30 96

This is a French / Mediterranean style restaurant on Lanzarote. You may be over there for the day, especially as it is a lovely trip over. Once again, beautiful setting and wonderful food.

• La Era, Carretera General de Cassillas del Angel, 38. Telephone 928 53 82 34

Used mainly by the Spanish, so must be good, we were in there one Sunday lunchtime and had got there at about 1.30, by 2.30 the queue was out the door and it is a very large restaurant.

• Frasquita, El Castillo. Telephone 928 16 36 57

Closed Monday
In Caleta Bay at the end of the beach.
Only serves fish, the owner brings a platter of fish to your table and tells you what they all are, you choose which you would like and they cook it and serve with canary potatoes and salad. The surroundings are not “posh” but the food is lovely and the view of Caleta Bay is wonderful.

We hope that you enjoy these restaurants and many more on the island, it is one of the many pleasures of living here, let us know if you have any favourites you have found and we will add them to the list.
